Art in Motion | The first edition

Art in Motion participants came together to create works of art drawing on shared heritage between Indonesia and the Netherlands and projecting into the future. The idea is to move forward without the past casting its dark shadows over the present and future.

What started as an idealistic notion soon developed into a wide-spanning interdisciplinary, international and intercultural project. Art in Motion serves as a bridge to creatively showcase the talent in drawing history and projecting it into a positive future.

The ambition led to an in-depth workshop and culminated in a final in March 2024 that astounded with the artistic talent in Indonesia. Dance, music, fashion, painting, sculpture, performance art, photography and even poets shared centre stage to showcase connectivity.

The winner Ms Annisa Retni Maharani from Parongpong Maharani impressed the judges with her piece ‘Vice Versa’ ….

In fact, the final is just the beginning. The AiM journey continues into September 2024, where students from various provinces – from Aceh to Papua – will gather in Jakarta. They will lay the foundation for a joint artwork to be created jointly with selected Dutch artists.

In addition, AiM has been invited to participate in the biennial prestigious art festival FKI, happening in Padangpanjang Sumatra in 2025. At the FKI, the final artwork by AiM the Indonesia and Dutch artists will be presented to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
