Art in Motion Statue

9 young artists from different provinces in Indonesia and 5 Dutch art students are the engine of this initiative. In February 2025 they participated in interactive workshops on history and design thinking, and were challenged to develop ideas for an artwork that embodies the theme of shared heritage and forward collaboration. Connected via Zoom from Erasmus Huis in Jakarta and the Indonesia House Amsterdam, they collaborated across distance, timezone and language. The sketches and models of their ideas were exhibited at the Erasmus Huis in March 2025. The eventual design of ‘Masa Depan’ is a culmination of their ideas. Jamal, a 22-year-old artist participant in the workshops, will construct the sculpture, guided by renowned Balinese sculptor, Nyoman Nuarta.
