Art in Motion – Background

The history between Indonesia and the Netherlands has been going on for centuries. Much has happened within that period of time, socially, politically and economically. There have been years of happiness and sadness, but the relationship is a fact, branded into both countries DNA. Indonesians and Dutch people even built family ties through marriage, so their blood is truly mixed. To this day, traces of each other’s culture can still be found in both countries in language, architecture, culinary and other social aspects.

Art in Motion (AIM) aims to zoom in on the future, respecting the past, to build on the potential for mutual growth.

Anissa Retni’s (winner 1st edition of AIM) musical composition based on the poem Masa Depan by Rob Hammink.

“The future is more than a dot on the horizon. It is understanding how the past and present can get you there. I find it fascinating how young people in Indonesia and the Netherlands will shape that future with their knowledge, their hands, and especially with their hearts.”
